Overview
What is psoriasis & eczema management?
Chronic inflammatory skin conditions are managed rather than cured. A good plan reduces flare frequency, restores comfort and sets out exactly what to do when a flare begins, so treatment is not started too late.
Every plan at Own Skin Dermatology & Advanced Aesthetics begins with a consultation, an honest assessment of what will help, and what will not.

The science
How psoriasis & eczema management works
Controls the inflammatory response driving the flare
01
Identify the pattern
Psoriasis, atopic eczema, contact dermatitis and fungal infection can look similar and need different treatment.
02
Settle the flare
Inflammation is brought under control with adequate treatment rather than repeated under-dosing.
03
Hold the barrier
Emollients, cleanser changes and trigger avoidance keep the skin stable between flares.
Steps treatment up during flares and down for maintenance

Your treatment journey
From first consultation to review
A structured pathway, so you know what happens at every visit.
Suitability
Is this treatment right for you?
Suitability is confirmed by a dermatologist after assessment, never from a page like this one.
Generally considered for
- Plaque psoriasis, including scalp and nail involvement
- Atopic dermatitis in children and adults
- Contact and irritant dermatitis, especially in wet-work occupations
- Anyone whose flares keep returning despite over-the-counter care
Who may not be suitable
- Self-directed treatment without a confirmed diagnosis
- Long-term potent steroid use on the face or folds without supervision
- Where an undiagnosed fungal infection is present
- Where a dermatologist advises a different pathway after assessment
- Photograph a flare when it is at its worst, clinic visits often fall on good days
- Bring every product currently used on the skin, including soaps and home remedies
- Note occupational exposures and how often hands are washed
- List all medication; some drugs can trigger or worsen psoriasis
- Apply emollient generously and frequently, including on clear skin
- Use lukewarm water and a soap substitute rather than hot showers
- Do not stop anti-inflammatory treatment abruptly if the plan says to taper
- Contact the clinic if a flare spreads rapidly, weeps or becomes painful
- Topical steroids are safe when used at the right potency, site and duration, misuse is what causes harm
- Steroid-antifungal combination creams are avoided; they worsen fungal disease and thin skin
- Secondary bacterial infection is looked for in weeping or crusted eczema
- Systemic options, where needed, involve monitoring explained in advance
