Tattoo Removal
Removal is a course, not an appointment. Ink type, colour, depth and age all decide how many sessions it takes.

Overview
What is tattoo removal?
Laser tattoo removal fragments ink so the body can clear it over time. The number of sessions depends on ink colour, depth, age and location, and complete clearance cannot be guaranteed for every tattoo.
Every plan at Own Skin Dermatology & Advanced Aesthetics begins with a consultation, an honest assessment of what will help, and what will not.

The science
How tattoo removal works
Short laser pulses fragment ink particles
01
Shatter the ink
Rapid pulses break tattoo pigment into much smaller particles.
02
Clear it slowly
The immune system removes those particles over the weeks between sessions.
03
Fade in stages
Each session lightens the tattoo further; the total number depends on ink and colour.
Different ink colours respond differently

Suitability
Is this treatment right for you?
Suitability is confirmed by a dermatologist after assessment, never from a page like this one.
Generally considered for
- Amateur and professional tattoos, assessed individually
- Fading before a cover-up rather than complete removal
- Patients able to commit to sessions spaced weeks apart
- Anyone who accepts that some colours clear far more slowly
Who may not be suitable
- Recent tan or sun exposure over the tattoo
- Active infection or inflammation over the area
- Keloid tendency, unless carefully assessed
- During pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning before each session
- Do not use bleaching or exfoliating products on the area
- Report any photosensitising medication
- Plan sessions with adequate intervals; rushing increases risk
- Keep the area clean, dressed if advised, and do not burst blisters
- Strict sun protection over the treated area
- Avoid swimming and heavy sweating while healing
- Report signs of infection immediately
- Blistering, crusting and temporary pigment change are common
- Permanent lightening or darkening of the treated skin can occur
- Some colours respond poorly and may not clear completely
- Texture change or faint shadowing may remain after the ink has gone
