Treatment
Under-Eye Rejuvenation
Under-eye shadows have several causes, pigment, hollowing, thin skin and fluid. Treating the wrong one wastes time and money.

Overview
What is under-eye rejuvenation?
Under-eye treatment starts with identifying whether pigment, vasculature, hollowing or texture is dominant. Options are then selected accordingly, often in combination and always conservatively.
Every plan at Own Skin Dermatology & Advanced Aesthetics begins with a consultation, an honest assessment of what will help, and what will not.

The science
How under-eye rejuvenation works
Examination distinguishes pigment, shadow and vascular components
01
Identify the cause
Pigment, hollow, thin skin and fluid look similar but need entirely different treatment.
02
Treat the dominant one
The main contributor is addressed first, conservatively, given how delicate the area is.
03
Protect and review
Sun protection and sleep support the result; standard photographs judge progress.
Daily photoprotection and habit change support the result

Suitability
Is this treatment right for you?
Suitability is confirmed by a dermatologist after assessment, never from a page like this one.
Generally considered for
- Pigmented dark circles
- Hollowing that casts a shadow under the eye
- Fine crepey texture of the lower lid
- Patients who understand more than one cause may need addressing
Who may not be suitable
- Active infection or inflammation around the eye
- During pregnancy or breastfeeding for most procedural options
- Where prominent fat pads mean surgery is the better answer
- Where the cause is medical and needs treating first
- Come without eye makeup
- Bring a note of sleep pattern, allergies and any nasal congestion
- Tell us about thyroid, kidney or anaemia history
- Avoid blood thinners before injectable options where medically possible
- Avoid rubbing the eye area
- Daily sunscreen, including on the lower lid area
- Cool compresses if swelling occurs after an injectable procedure
- Report any visual disturbance immediately
- The under-eye is thin and unforgiving, conservative treatment is safer here than anywhere else on the face
- Bruising and swelling are common after injectable options
- Pigment can worsen with aggressive treatment or sun exposure
- Rare but serious vascular complications are explained before any injectable treatment
