What are skin cysts?
A cyst is a small sac or lump beneath the skin that may contain fluid, keratin or other material. Cysts usually develop slowly and may feel smooth or rounded when touched. They are often harmless but can sometimes become inflamed, infected or uncomfortable.
Skin cysts can occur on many areas of the body, including the face, scalp, neck, back, chest, arms or legs. Many remain stable and painless, while others may gradually increase in size or occasionally become inflamed.
